What do Italians know about kettles - obviously nothing. (I should have known that as I know they don't use them).
Awkward to lift even when empty and very heavy. Impossible to refill through the spout. The lid is difficult to remove in order to fill the kettle, especially when it's just boiled and you need to boil more water because it jams. And the whole thing gets boiling hot on the outside when used, awkward at the best of times and dangerous with children about. Turn it on and you'd be forgiven for thinking a helicopter was landing in your back garden. The gauge is difficult to read - not a minor point. There's a piece of clear plastic which makes it look like there's water in there when there isn't - my mother nearly boiled it dry! And a terrible pourer. It splashes everywhere. And although it looks retro and quite solid in the pictures, the on/off switch actually feels flimsy and cheap and it's constantly grubby (especially as it's so difficult to fill and dribbles while you pour).

And yet, I can hardly disagree with some - the gauge is particularly bad and does indeed look as though it's registering water content when there's none.
However, I find it robust, a good pourer, I like the side-ways handle on the lid, so that if you do take it off to re-fill after boiling, you don't scald yourself. I also like the fact that it will boil small amounts of water, and always turns off at boiling, whether it's full or got hardly any in.
Yes, it is Very Noisy, you can't have a phone conversation next to it when it's boiling.
I've had mine about 6 months in a fairly average kitchen, I'm no perfect housewife, but it doesn't look grubby or tatty yet. I've just been to stare at it to check.

The kettle looks great, that's originally why we got the thing, but I must say that ever since it's been great, fast to boil, accurate to pour and all round very easy to keep looking neat and tidy.

Once again, some people's standards amazes me. It's a kettle, it boils water and looks great whilst doing so. Those are my two boxes ticked.

I'd recommend you ignore perhaps 80% of these reviews, and you'll be perfectly happy.

However, after about 12 months there was limescale build up externally on the spout (from the steam is all that I can think of)and the black coating began to peel off around the top where the lid joins. I don't think I've ever used the lid so I can't understand why it is showing so much wear. The kettle now looks constantly grubby despite it not having that much use (we only use it a couple of times a day).

I used to have a lovely whistling stove-top kettle but decided to get an electric one because the stove-top took almost FIVE MINUTES to boil enough water for two cups of tea... I bought this kettle (in a different colour, but the model is the same) about four months ago and have experienced no odd taste to the water as reported by some. Granted, it isn't the quietest kettle in the world but since it's only on for a minute I don't consider the noise to be a problem.

Morphy Richards is a reliable brand and never lets me down with the quality of products they provide. I found it impossible to find this particular kettle in my local stores and was thrilled when I saw Amazon selling it. It looks fabulous, boils quickly and is a pleasure to use. I love the whistle the kettle gives when the water is boiled, though this can be turned off for those who do not want it. The plum colour is so rich and chic. The handle on the kettle is stylish and easy to use. The water pours perfectly from the kettle too.
  
  I was extremely happy that the sellers were Amazon. The delivery of the item was very quick and I had my kettle within days of ordering it. Unfortunately there was a defective mark on the kettle when it arrived and when I contacted Amazon, they couldn't have been more helpful showing courtesy, prompt contact and understanding throughout the whole transaction. They swiftly sent me another and the whole transaction was done with ease and professionalism on their part. The replacement kettle arrived within two days of dispatch and in perfect condition. Customer service is important when purchasing a product and I would highly recommend buying items directly from Amazon.

First bought the black kettle. Boil time was fairly slow compared to previous fast boil kettle, and if more than half full water leaked out below handle. After 6 months the base stopped working. Returned to Bosch and they replaced with a white one, which looks a little dated compared to the black. Another 6 months down the line and the white one is very slow to boil, water leaks out below handle and when pouring the boiling water goes everywhere. I won't be replacing with a Bosch.

So far, it has been a worthy investment; it boils slightly quicker than most kettles I have had- It takes just under 2 and a half minutes to boil 1 litre of water (that's enough for roughly four cups of tea etc). Asking round, this seems to be a good performance.

Reviews for Le Creuset Traditional Kettle Almond 2.1L (Kitchen & Home) After very little use the iside of this kettle developed rust spots where the internal enamel broken down. Having checked on other review sites this is a problem with this kettle.

We had to return the first version as the whistle dropped off when we unpacked it. Le Creuset quality? I think not.

I notise that the only other review when I wrote this is a product description and not a review - wonder who wrote it...

No high street stores now stock them only cordless kettles. I tried to find Haden kettles as we have tried other makes but Haden have proved to be the best and most durable. So thankyou and keep supplying them.

Bought this for someone with a disability and it means they don't have to pick it up. Does mean they have to fill it by filling a glass under the tap and then pouring it into the kettle, though. The cord really needs to be pushed hard into the back otherwise has a tendency to come out - which isn't good if someone has dexterity problems or lacks strength. But the tipper wins it.

It doesn't take too long to boil either and easy to keep clean. Worth buying if you don't want anything fancy as it replaced a more expensive elaborate kettle which only lasted a few months. An absolute bargain.

Reviews for Breville VKJ187 Cream Stainless Steel Jug Kettle (Kitchen & Home) I must admit, I would not normally spend this much on a kettle, but this was a thing of beauty, a cut above the rest. The kettle is cream coloured stainless steel, which matches the units in the kitchen realy well. It is really easy to keep clean by just giving it a wipe over now and then with a damp cloth.

The kettle is really easy to use. It slots into a circular base, which plugs into the mains. The black lid fits securely, but is not difficult to remove. i usually fill it with a jug, but you could fill it straight from the tap. The capacity of the kettle is 1.5 litres, which equates to about 7 cups. There is an indicator along the back of the kettle, which allows you to easily see the water level without opening the kettle.

You switch on the kettle by pressing a silver button which is located at the top of the handle.

I had the plain steel version of this model,and it lasted just 2 years because the contacts in the base plate got dirty and there is no way to resolve the problem - lots of other Amazon reviewers noted the same problem, with the same frustration (you won't find the reviews, as the steel versions have been withdrawn from sale, and all those bad reviews with them). Breville is reportedly not interested in solving the problem. So short sighted - wouldn't it be better/cheaper to make fewer, well designed products that last, which is what people want to buy? I guess these manufacturers are just cynical, make the thing to fall apart in 2 years, make us chuck it out, make us buy another one. Well....

Have switched to Russell Hobbs, as so many of the Breville kettles seem to be mechanically challenged in one way or another, to judge by Amazon review results. I do resent paying good money for yet more landfill.

Hey, about that: why aren't manufacturers penalised on environmental grounds for bad production - send in your faulty kettle and they get taxed for it? Then they might see the point of getting it right. If you think I am being absurd, just skim through all the electric kettles on Amazon and see how many carry bad reviews saying they break down very quickly. What a waste!

We should do something about it....

It's now February 2012. Every time we use the kettle there is a pool of water which we think collects from the bottom of the handle, where the clear filling guide is located (the filling guide runs up the side of the kettle, and lights up in blue). The product is only just out of its 1 year guarantee ( which is not a long guarantee, and suggests they don't have confidence in their own product ). Sadly this is most likely a (ridiculous) design fault, and we would have asked for a refund rather than repair. We will never buy a Breville product again.

"This replaced an excellent plastic 'cool wall' morphy richards kettle, which lasted for about ten years. Unfortunately nothing that matches the spec of this kettle is currently available on the market -- so we're stuck with purchasing a compromise amongst what is found online and in shops.

This kettle looks good and isn't too large. The detachable lid isn't a problem.

I wanted a "whistler" and liked the look of this one.The colour is great( there are a few others to choose from) and the design is different and eye-catching. Enamelled inside and out, which i hope to find long lasting ,as i live in a very hard water area. The handle makes it easy to grip and pour,
and not heavy ,even when full. Boils fairly quickly and a good pourer. Overall very pleased with this product. If you want a good well made "whistling " kettle that does the job and won't cost the earth go for this one.

The wide base means that it heats well, but unlike the Le Creuset Kone the spout is far from the base which means it does not overheat and thus does not spit when pouring. The whistle flips us which is much more convenient than a removable whistle. Inside it is non stick which will inhibit limescale, although I wonder what it might mean for the kettle's life.

Reviews for Premier Housewares 1.7 Litre Stainless Steel Enamel Kettle, Black (Kitchen & Home) the kettle itself looks nice and the whistle worked fine (a very nostalgic sound), but the worst aspect for me was the poorly insulated handle. This meant flapping about with tea cloths or oven mitts to avoid burning oneself. That's poor, unsafe design and materials isn't it?
This kettle is now demoted for camping use only.

If you're in the market for a stove kettle, and if you're swapping from electric kettles, bear in mind you're dealing with open heat sources - especially on gas hobs - so perhaps, in hindsight, I should have factored that in.

The whistle is distinctly weak and pathetic but at least it works. It looks good but even when only 1/3 or half full it takes a long time to boil. Its a great back up if the power goes and you want to use it on gas - it may work faster on an electric hob perhaps.
