Reviews for Russell Hobbs 17869 Black Plastic Buxton 1.6 Litre Kettle with concealed 3KW Element (Kitchen & Home) I have owned one of these for a month and yesterday noticed the lid popping up by the end of the day it got worse, today it will not close down. Very bad espically if you have children around. Boilded kettle this morning for coffee first thing, went about house came back, kitchen full of steam with lid up boiling away, not cutting out because of it.
Reviews for Russell Hobbs 17869 Black Plastic Buxton 1.6 Litre Kettle with concealed 3KW Element (Kitchen & Home) Unfortunately I am completely re-writing my original review of this kettle. It performed very well for a few months after which the lid broke off, which was disappointing, but at least the kettle was still functioning so I decided not to replace it. However, the lid proceeded to completely disintegrate dropping lumps of black plastic falling into the water and it is now completely useless after only 15 months. I know this is a relatively cheap kettle but it's the worst experience I've ever had with a product so I really feel I need to write this sadly very negative review.
Reviews for Russell Hobbs 17869 Black Plastic Buxton 1.6 Litre Kettle with concealed 3KW Element (Kitchen & Home) This kettle is very quiet, boils quickly, fills VERY easily through the spout (no dribbling water in carefully to avoid splashing half the kitchen) and - miracle of miracles - pours without dripping! How so many other kettles make it through testing to manufacture without satisfying even these basic criteria is a mystery to me, and is very annoying for us internet shoppers. Like the previous reviewer, the design would be marginally improved by having a plain black handle instead of the silver plastic insert, but that is a very minor quibble given the excellent quality and performance of the kettle, especially as the design is still very handsome anyway. If you're looking for a kettle that has ALL the features, not just one or two, this is the one.

Just to add, it is now May 2011, so I have had this kettle for about 18 months, and it is still great. The only issue (if you can call it that) that we have ever had is that just occasionally it doesn't switch itself off when it boils and I have had to turn it off maually; however this hasn't happened very often, only about three times in all the time we've had it, so I don't think there is any real fault there. It gets a lot of (pretty careless) use and is still showing no signs of wear and tear or anything 'giving up', so I really can't knock the quality, very sturdy and strong. Still delighted.
