3.4 Out Of 5 Stars (27 Customer Reviews)Reviews for Morphy Richards Intelliboil 43870 Jug Kettle, Black (Kitchen & Home) I am hugely reliant on the reviews of others when purchasing, but not very good at adding my own reviews, so I thought I should start with this kettle. I needed a replacement for my useless Dualit kettle, and my criteria were: black, cordless, viewing window on both sides (husband left handed), and easy to fill through the spout. This kettle appeared to meet all the criteria, plus it's a 'Which' magazine best buy. Capacity is just under a litre and a half, and the lid lifts up to just under 95 degrees to allow easy filling - no more having to fill through a tiny spout like the Dualit! The kettle is quiet, quick to boil and beeps when it has reached the desired temperature. In addition, the light inside the viewing window changes from blue to purple and then orange to red when it boils - I didn't realise this when I ordered it, and it is a nice feature. I was a bit concerned about the plastic taste to the water reported by other users, so followed the advice from a customer on the Argos website and boiled the kettle a few times before using it, once with bicarbonate of soda added to the water. As a result there has never been any problem with the taste of the water, and this kettle is really simple and practical to use. It pours accurately, and being plastic my children can't scald themselves if they touch the surface. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this kettle - it's a reasonable price (cheapest on Amazon), and was ordered at 6pm and arrived at 10am the next morning.
UPDATE: Despite all of the above, the kettle is now producing boiled water that tastes like a swimming pool! This is in spite of always using fresh water, so sadly the kettle is being returned to amazon.
Reviews for Morphy Richards Intelliboil 43870 Jug Kettle, Black (Kitchen & Home) Having read the Which? review for this kettle, I really wanted it but I was put off by the reports of plastic tasting water amongst these reviews. As someone else said: it doesn't matter how many features a kettle has, if the water it boils tastes bad, it's no good. So I bought the stainless steel version instead (Morphy Richards 43872 Jug Kettle). It's a little more expensive but it has all the great features described elsewhere in these reviews, without the taste of plastic (and I've had it for a couple of weeks now).
So a five star rating, but only if you buy the stainless steel version.
Reviews for Morphy Richards Intelliboil 43870 Jug Kettle, Black (Kitchen & Home) I bought this kettle 2 weeks ago from Amazon and have just arranged to return it. It has some great features which is why I purchased it - However (and it's a BIG 'however')...the water this kettle boils tastes and smells strongly of plastic. I hoped that this would stop after the first few boils but it hasn't. We contacted Morphy Richards customer services who were very helpful - they told us that they are aware of this problem and are currently investigating it.
