Reviews for Russell Hobbs 13775 1.7 L Jug Kettle in Pure Black with 360-degree Base 3 kW (Kitchen & Home) This kettle works well, boils fast and looks good UNTIL if you live in a hard water area you come to descale it. The scale cannot be removed from around the lid as the body of the kettle is painted black metal and any proprietary de-scaler will remove the black paint!!!!

So either you have to leave the scale to continue to build up which is unsightly or the de-scaling solution will peel off your black paint - even more unsightly.

However the lid shutting mechanism is very poor and the lid frequently springs open when tilting to pour. This leaves a chance of boiling water all over you. I returned mine and bought a breville lightning.
