Reviews for Kenwood SJM100 Moda Kettle, Stainless Steel (Kitchen & Home) We are very pleased with the performance of this kettle. The energy saving features were one reason for choosing it, but also the easy to use hinged lid and well balanced when pouring due to position of handle. Very quick to boil and not anywhere near as noisy as a reviewer said another website. A very good purchase.
Reviews for Kenwood SJM100 Moda Kettle, Stainless Steel (Kitchen & Home) I retired our old kettle after 5 years of reasonable service for two reasons. Firstly, it didn't go with the new kitchen I've just installed(!) and secondly it was an old-school element kettle and the minimum fill amount was something silly like 500ml. I chose this kettle because we have some other Kenwood appliances and have been happy with their build quality and performance; because it can boil one cup full of water as a minimum and because it's a simple but elegant style without any silly gimmicks (like colour changing, or other wastes of energy).

The first bit of good news is for left-handers. Not only is the kettle's base a full 360 degree swivel but there are water level gauges on both sides of the handle - you can see what's in there whichever hand you pick it up with. The kettle is a reasonable weight (empty) and sits sturdily and neatly on its base.

Unlike some kettles it's not fussy how you fill it. You can fill via the spout, or you can hit the thumb-switch on the top of the handle to pop the lid open. You'll have to do the latter, though, if you want to use the kettle's "EcoFill" widget. This is a removable plastic insert that sits in the top of the kettle. It has 2 compartments - a by-pass one for filling the kettle with larger amounts of water, and the "Ecofill" compartment for measuring out 1 or 2 cups worth. This side has a small hole in the bottom so it allows you to fill it with just one cup's worth of water which then runs out into the kettle. For 2 cups, just fill it more slowly. I'm not sure it's any easier or quicker than simply filling your kettle using a mug as a measuring device! But if you're not convinced it easily pops out. The fill gauges on the kettle sides start at 2 cups so it's easy enough to judge that amount or more by eye.

There is a big, easily operated on switch at the bottom of the kettle under the handle. This glows blue when the kettle is switched on, but stays blissfully un-illuminated at all other times! The kettle is powerful and therefore it makes a fair amount of noise, but it's not excessive or unusually loud compared to other 3kW kettles. It's forgiven, though, because it's not on for very long! To boil one cup of water from cold takes under 40 seconds. A full kettle from cold takes 3 minutes (and it holds 1.5 litres to the max fill line).
Reviews for Kenwood SJM100 Moda Kettle, Stainless Steel (Kitchen & Home) We chose this kettle as a replacement for a new and far more expensive Delonghi icona which we returned as unfit for purpose. This little kettle however is excellent, very powerful, pleasant to use, seems to be well made and has a quality feel. The design is rather simple and understated, but still looks modern and functional, love the blue light in the boil switch. Easy to read fill guage, suitable for both left and right handers and the economy fill gadget works well. This model is in my opinion very quiet, considering how quickly it boils 1.6 litres of water (3 mins).
