Reviews for Russell Hobbs 15066 1.6 L Therma Select Temperature Control Kettle with Concealed 3 kW Element (Kitchen & Home) It may not be the most beautiful kettle, but it is exactly what one needs if one drinks green tea (or other things that are best made with water at less than boiling point). Some tea is best made with water at 70, some at 75, some at 80 degrees. And you can make any tea come out best.
Reviews for Russell Hobbs 15066 1.6 L Therma Select Temperature Control Kettle with Concealed 3 kW Element (Kitchen & Home) We shopped around extensively for a good kettle that would boil quickly and also gives a variety of temperature controls for making different kinds of drinks. Making different types of teas and coffees at different temps really does make a difference - I never believed it either, but now that I do it myself, I'm a believer.

Anyway, this kettle offers amazing variability in terms of temp selection. The best we found, allowing you to select anywhere from 60-100C in 5 degree increments. It also looks very stylish with a brushed steel finish and blue electronic display.

But, other than that, it's just like any other kettle. It actually even has a couple of aspects that I think are sub-standard.

Firstly, it does not make any noise when it's done heating the water. If you're heating to boiling, you can obviously hear it when the water starts to roll and thus that's not a big deal. When heating to lower temps, though, you have to stand by the kettle because the only indication given is that the LED display stops blinking. If you're boiling a full 1.6L for a big group, that means you have to wait by the kettle for a while. Not a huge deal, but I liked the click my £5 argos kettle made.

Secondly, for the power: this kettle is 3kW, which is markedly higher power than my super cheap Argos kettle (which I think was 2.2kW). However, this kettle does not seem to heat water much faster at all. It takes about 60 seconds to get 350ml to boil (two cups worth).
Reviews for Russell Hobbs 15066 1.6 L Therma Select Temperature Control Kettle with Concealed 3 kW Element (Kitchen & Home) Put cold water in, turn it on, a bit later you can pour hot water out. It's a kettle! :-)

Bought this to replace our Morphy Richards perfection kettle which was very good, but after 3.5 years it suddenly went phut - I think the element just blew. Can't get spares, so had to replace it. I had got very used to the two temperature settings it had, for tea or coffee, so I wanted something similar and after a bit of searching, I found this one. I never used to believe it but coffee, instant or real, really does taste better made with water below boiling point.

Full marks to amazon, excellent price, and arrived by normal first class post within about 20 hours of ordering. First impressions are very good - build quality seems excellent, it looks reasonably stylish in the kitchen, it is very easy to fill (sounds daft, but plenty of kettles aren't!), it pours well without drips or dribbles, and the huge range of selectable temperatures - anything from 60 to 100 in 5 degree increments - more than fills my requirements. The controls feel nice. There is no click or clunk as it turns off, the display just stops flashing.
