Ensure kettle handle is locked into the upright position. Once in position do not try to unlock. Also, wash kettle in hot water, then fill with clean water and bring to the boil and discard this water. As with all metal surfaces in contact with high temperatures, please take caution when handling Le Creuset Kettles heated on the stove. Le Creuset proudly uses high heat resistant plastic on our handles and whistles; however, we encourage you to use a Le Creuset oven mitt to remove whistle before pouring. How to use Never heat up an empty kettle or fill beyond level marked on the outside of the kettle. Match kettle base to size of ring/burner. Do not tip kettle upside down when pouring as water may spill from the lid. Do not leave kettle simmering for long periods on any heat source - it may boil dry which will damage the base enamel. Remove whistle carefully with a cloth before pouring - caution, whistle may be hot. Avoid leaving water in kettle when not in use, as a build up of scale may occur and reduce efficiency. Do not bang the kettle down onto any hob or work surface. Repeated knocks may damage the enamel. A gentle de-scaler may be used periodically, if required. Use on Aga/Rayburn Stoves: Do not heat kettle on simmering plate - always use fast plate. If plate has been open, close the plate to allow the plate to recover heat before heating the kettle. Sheer elegance on the stove and usefully frees up precious counter space taken up by a traditional kettle!

I have two of these, which I alternate. Both were acquired in 2004 and I have not experienced any of the problems that other reviewers have commented on. I do tend to use them for smaller amounts of water...... for beverages rather than boiling larger amounts for cooking....and, mine whistle away, although not particularly piercingly, which suits me!

Stylish looking and suitable for all heat sources, including ceramic and induction, the base conducts heat evenly across the wide bottom and up the sides of the kettle, quickly heating the water.
Tight-fitting lid and folding/locking handle aids safety.

Sturdily boxed with full instructions supplied.

After much searching on the high street and internet I decided on the Le Creuset Kone Kettle. Brilliant purchase and impressive service. The kettle is efficient, alerts you with its whistle when it is boiled and what is more, it is easy on the eye and quite a conversation piece to friends and family when they drop in for a brew.
