Reviews for 1LT WHITE CORDLESS ELECTRIC KETTLE TRAVEL MINI JUG My "Office" is a converted touring caravan and, as such, has sensitive trip fuses that cut off supply if the mains circuit is overloaded. Using a 2-3kWatt kettle with computer stuff running and an electric heater would often trip these fuses and cause havoc. Obviously, a kettle of this wattage was the answer.

Also, my elderly mother has trouble lifting and filling her standard-sized kettle, so a 1 litre kettle could be ideal for her. I bought one of these about a month ago to try it out.

Having bought and used it, I decided it was not really suitable for an elderly person... read on!

I've had a couple of other "travel" kettles, but the lid broke on one and both had fixed leads which can be very awkward (even potentially dangerous?) when using on a crowded worktop.

From the description and specifications, this was the only kettle I could find that seemed as if it would be suitable.

Other reviewers have said the lid is very stiff. They're absolutely right. It's much too stiff for my elderly mother to open. Even I have difficulty with it and it hasn't eased with a month's useage. When I do open it, it usually unclips suddenly and showers condensate from under the lid all over the place. I'm also worried about it breaking the hinges when it opens so unexpectedly.

The kettle has to be placed on the base precisely and correctly orientated. It has a square-shaped connector and doesn't sit easily - in fact if there's no water in it, it doesn't sit right down at all, spring pressure from the base connector lifts it up slightly. Again, not suitable for the elderly!

It has an old-fashioned coil-type element. These collect more scaling in hard water areas and not as easy to clean out as the modern flat-plate type elements.

Now I can live with these problems, and most younger caravanners probably could too, but the first company that produces a well-designed, low-wattage, lightweight, compact kettle with a 360-degree fixed base and modern plate element will wipe the board with sales.

I'm sure there's a very large market of elderly people looking for such a kettle. Manufacturers are missing a trick here... and I KNOW caravanners would buy it.

This kettle was bought for this trip as the hotels we are staying in don't provide one. The kettle is well made,good quality and value for money considering it is cordless and holds up to a litre of water which is plenty for 2 adults however my only gripe is that it takes ever so long for the water to boil, between 20-25 mins depending how much water is used. If you're not in a hurry it's no problem but if you're gasping for a cuppa then you'll need patience or give up and buy from the hotel's cafeteria.
I have only used the kettle in the US. As it was purchased in the UK it came with the UK plug and I'm using a UK to US plug adaptor so i'm not sure if the difference in the power output is causing the long boil time or if it is normal for this kettle, being the first reviewer of this kettle here i have no other feedback to comapare with.
I will update this review when i'm back in the UK after trying it out without using the plug adaptor incase people considering buying this kettle for their trip abroad would like to know if the conversion of the power supply causes the long boil time.
I'm rating this 3 stars as the purpose of buying this kettle was to use it abroad and if I had known it takes this long to wait for it to boil then i would have purchased another model.

I'm back in the UK and have tried this kettle out plugging directly into the mains socket and the boil time for this 900w kettle is 6 mins, which i believe is similiar to other brands in the travel kettle market.

I don't like big kettles as I live alone so a 1.0L size is ideal, it takes roughly 3.5 minutes to boil when full, and a lot less when not, it's light and looks good, I like the fact that it comes off of the boil really quickly which is good when making coffee.

I can highly reccomend this product, especially for people living alone or not able to lift a larger kettle.

Reviews for Bosch TWK6831GB Jug Kettle Stainless Steel (Kitchen & Home) Bosch build a great-looking kettle, gracing any kitchen counter-top. We were really pleased with the design and the function of this kettle - easy to pour, boiled quickly, no problems with the metallic taste issue.

But after 18 months, it suddenly started to leak gently at all the seams - a crust of limescale appeared at each seam around the base and either side of the handle. Now it's puddling water from the base, and we're looking for another model.

Looking at other reviews on this website and others, this seems to be a common fault.
if you want a kettle that will last you a good few years (and why shouldn't it?), I would suggest you buy something else.
However, if you don't mind spending around £40 for a kettle that you will have to throw away in about 18 months, then you might as well go for this one.
Please note that Bosch do not appear to be willing to recognise this fault and are not willing to replace faulty kettles.

Overall, a good kettle. No problem with metallic water that earlier reviewers had, so it looks like that's been solved.

Points for:

- It's a good looking kettle (subjective).
- Despite looking like it might not fill from the spout (and despite not filling from the spout the first time I tried), it does fill from the spout fine.
- Boils fast (although I'm comparing it to a 6 year old Kenwood here).
- Price.

Points against:
- There's no float in the level guage, making it hard to read.
- The lid only opens 25% when you press the button, meaning that you have to open it manually to fill etc.
- You have to shut the lid manually, although to be fair we couldn't find a single steel kettle that had a lid that could be opened *and* shut using the button.
- Some steam escapes from around the lid and some of that condenses on the top of the lid.

Looks shiny and smart and not difficult to keep clean on the outside, if you wipe it down while still warm. Water boils up nice and quickly and the swivel action base is a welcome feature. The lid opens fully in two movements - press the button on the handle and then gently pull the lid back - and the filter is easy to remove, rinse and replace. Slightly heavier and noisier than my previous kettle, but nothing to complain about - and I love the blue light which lets you know that it's coming to the boil! I also like the safety feature that switches the kettle off when you lift it from the base, so less chance of boiling dry by mistake. To date, one very happy customer.

I searched high & low for a nice looking, simple, no fancy stuff but great working kettle...i could not believe it even when doing my homework on the Which? website they had their Best Buy's but had such poor reviews from us customers using them everyday!?! Left me thinking how can they be a Best Buy then?? Things such as leaking, a lot of noise, not switching off after boil so continues boiling! And some of those kettles might of been nice looking & fancy but they wernt cheap either!
I came to looking on Amazon & spotted this one (looks first) and then went on to see that it had full stars from all the reviews. The blue illumination was a bonus (I love that little feature)

Now having enjoyed for a few months lots of people have remarked what a nice looking kettle it is (now my mum whishes she had got it instead of the one she bought) although shiny Silver i havnt had to clean it much!
And a fairly important point for me, which every other kettle seems to have a problem with, was the noise which there is not much of at all..has never bothered me one bit, boils away & is very quick then switches off.

Reviews for Breville VKJ367 Brita Filter Hot Cup with Variable Dispenser (Kitchen & Home) I have previously owned both the Tefal Quick Cup (which is fast but the water was not hot enough for my liking) and the first generation of the Breville Hot Cup. The Breville Hot Cup worked perfectly, but 18 months of use in a very hard water area means it now dispenses large quantities of limescale along with the water despite regular de-scaling.

When I saw this new model with variable dispense and an inbuilt filter, I decided that it was time for the old Hot Cup to be honourably retired.

The first thing to say about the new version is that it looks great. It really does look like an expensive and well made product and its smart chrome design will grace any kitchen.

From opening the box, set up takes a few minutes. There is no need to pre-soak the Brita Maxtra cartridge, but you do need to discard the first couple of tanks of water to ensure the inside of the kettle is perfectly clean before use.

This leads me on to the first thing to bear in mind if you decide to buy this product. As the kettle contains a filter, the water needs to run from the top water container, through the filter, and into the lower reservoir. The top container only holds about 1/3rd of the water required to fill the lower chamber to the maximum. It therefore takes about five minutes to totally fill the kettle from empty. This won't be a problem as long as you remember to refill it after you use it, but could be a bit frustrating if you are dying for a cup of tea and the last person to use it left it empty. The top filter tank is removable though, so I suppose you could use the kettle without filtering the water, but that defeats the purpose of getting this model.

Once filled you have the choice of 9 different cup sizes. This is a huge improvement over the earlier version that dispensed only one preset amount of water. However, the second thing to bear in mind is that the largest size setting is still only a reasonable sized mug full of water and you still need to do two dispenses to make a jug of instant gravy for instance. The smallest setting is only around 1/3rd of a smallish cup.

Upon pressing the power button, the front of the kettle and the see through water reservoir both light up with a stylish blue light. A few seconds later you can hear the sound of water beginning to boil followed by a slight whoosh and click as the water starts to be dispensed after about 35 seconds with a full mug being delivered in 45 seconds. The water really is very hot, very close to boiling I would say, and considerably hotter than the Tefal Quick Cup. The combination of filtered water that is also very close to being genuinely boiling makes a fine cup of tea.

I am delighted with it, and even hubby, who was sceptical at first, has been suitably impressed.

I have very boring problems with long boring names affecting my hands so I've been in the habit of filling kettles by jug for so long I'm always surprised when other people don't! A lightweight jug is an absolute must to fill this machine - some might see that as a drawback, I don't.

It is actually much smaller than I was expecting! The footprint of the heater base *without the drip tray* is the same as my old kettle. It is somewhat taller, but doesn't take up half the worktop as I was expecting it to. Keeping the kettle alongside for cooking or making multiple cups of tea (ie more than 3) is not going to be an issue. I have used a rival make of water boiler on family visits and (sorry family!) this is quieter and produces water that is far far hotter.

This takes a while as the largest amount of water dispensed at a time is only enough to fill a large cup. It is recommended that you change the filter every 4 weeks and thus the cost of the filters soon add up.

Once ready the Hot Cup does exactly what it claims to do. You can have a nice, filtered, hot cup of water at the touch of a button, perfect if you want a cup of tea. However if you want to make more than one cup you have to wait for the water to reboil each time which means a standard kettle is much more conveniant for a round of after dinner drinks. There are 5 different settings to choose from when dispensing the water.

It takes a little longer to boil but is a more practical size. How often do you need more than 1 litre of boiling water? It has a pop up lid button which is very handy for emptying and filling and it is easy to lift when full. The blue light is a nice touch too.

BUT!!!! on the 2nd time of using the kettle a piece of the black plastic that sits beneath the water indicator just literally fell off and will not fit back on. Hugely disappointed as this kettle was not inexpensive. I am getting in touch with the manufacturer as Amazon will not do anything until I've spoken to De Longhi (which is very irritating as I paid Amazon for it and it is their responsibility as far as I am concerned). I haven't used the toaster yet as the flat is not my permanent home and I am only there once a month or so.

It's not boring black, snoreworthy silver or icky white plastic - it's an absolutely lush shade of blue (it also apparently comes in a sexy scarlet, but that wouldn't match my kitchen).

It's also highly functional - it pours beautifully, not a drop spilt! Until I used this kettle I thought it was an impossibility to have a kettle that didn't spill, drip or otherwise deposit boiling water where it was not required, but this lovely kettle has proved me wrong.

I knocked a star off because it is a bit noisy (only to be expected with a metal kettle) and doesn't have all that "cool-wall" technology (but common-sense tells you that a kettle is going to be hot - and it shouldn't be near small children anyway!) BUT it's worth it to get that little skip of joy very time you go to use this beautiful object.

Lovely to touch, hold and pour. Boils very quickly. So impressed I just had to have the Toaster AND the coffee machine all I am waiting for now is the coffee grinder to come out in the Azure blue. Well worth paying the extra money to brighten up the morning cuppa.

Reviews for Prestige Stainless Steel Kettle, 1.7 L (Kitchen & Home) Having read some negative reviews before buying, I was a little apprehensive. Some criticised the lid as being flimsy or dangerous. My experience is that, whilst the lid may indeed be the weaker part, I have had no problems with it being loose nor no more dangerous than any hot kettle. I am very impressed by the overall quality. As others have said, it compliments the Magimix toaster perfectly. I have been using it now for about a month and am very pleased with it. I would certainly buy another and indeed, because of the reasonable price, may do so to keep in reserve.
The only negative comment has nothing to do with the kettle but with Amazon's packaging. As is a common problem, the kettle was packed in a box which was too big with inappropriate internal protection and as a result the box was damaged and the kettle had 2 very small dents on the top curved part. As these were small and hardly noticeable I didn't pursue the matter. Fortunately the kettle was for my own use and not intended as a present.

The only way to avoid a nasty steam burn was to hold the handle in the middle. Then, a couple of weeks later, steam started escaping from the top of the handle. I will be buying another kettle.

Reviews for Kenwood kMix Boutique Kettle - Bright Green (Kitchen & Home) I was surprised to find such a nice kettle from Kenwood of all makers. Aesthetically it is gorgeous, with nice curves, a bright colour that contrasts nicely with my understated kitchen, and a soft plastic handle. And from a pragmatic viewpoint it scores top makes. To open the top, press a button. There is no fiddling around with a tight fitting top, and no danger of burning your hand on steam when you pull the top off. When comparing kettles, I was surprised at how many were not easy to use, and all too often the cheap plastic ones were the most pleasing in use, presumably because they were aimed at people who simply wanted a functional product. The Kenwood feels well balanced, it is very easy to fill, and it boils surprisingly quickly. Overall the build quality seems quite decent, with a stainless steel body, nicely painted, and good quality plastics for the handle. Time will tell if it is well built, but initial impressions are very good. I suppose the design is more Germanic, than Italian, where form follows function, but if you like Doc Marten shoes, and Porsche cars, then you should like this. I suppose for some the name 'Kenwood' might be a turn off, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

It looks great in the kitchen, gets lots of remarks - until it starts to boil! It must be noisiest kettle ever - and it interferes with mobile signals too. The boiling noise sounds like one of the first ever kettles and I include non-elecric! Not as fast as my old kettle either. Should have been warned by the word 'Boutique' I suppose. For the price not up to the mark.

What is there to say?
This kettle is attractive. It boils quickly and I like seeing the water bubble up - ok, I don't get out much!
We searched the shops and drove many miles and bought three kettles, soon discarded, do you want to know why? Of course you do. One was dangerous, the handle got so hot I nearly dropped it. Another emitted scalding steam. The third one .. I don't remember.
If you are looking for a good, safe, entertaining! kettle ..look no further.

We had seen many kettles before finding this model in our friends' house. Our friends (who by the way had been also recommended this kettle by their friends) had owned it for some time and could not recommend it enough: 3000 W (instead of 2300W) guarantee a quick cup of tea, style of the kettle also blue / red light illuminations were a further attraction to it, so we lost no time to buy one and have been delighted using it for three months now.

Well, I was not disappointed when it was finally in my kitchen. Here is a list of what I like about this kettle:

1. The rapid boil feature which comes on most good make kettles.
2. The nice all polished stainless steel design right down to the base. When
the kettle is empty, you can actually see the bottom. The quality of the
stainless steel is very good because it is not lightweight.
3. The clear viewable window on both sides showing how much water is left.
4. The pretty lights that don't really serve at anything because for the two or
three minutes it takes to boil a kettle, you don't have to be that smart
to know when it has finished boiling. It is however a very
nice feature.
5. The push button top, which contrary to what other people have been writing on
other sites, opens up far enough to be able to fill up from the tap.
6. The most important feature (which I nearly forgot) is the keep hot button
which keeps the water hot for that second cup. It is just a silver button at
the top of the handle that you push upwards. There is a small illuminated
light next to the button to show that the feature is on. I always have a
second cup of tea in the morning and the water stays boiling hot for as
long as you need it. This was the main reason I chose this kettle.

It looks really classy in my kitchen even with the lights switched off from the mains. There is also a brushed stainless steel version available so be careful if you are ordering online and you specifically want a polished version. It does make more noise when boiling than any kettle I have had but I don't mind at all because when it stops making noise and you are next to the kitchen, you know when the water is ready. There is a little bit of stainless steel that also lines the handle to give it an elegant finish too. All in all, a very nice purchase and we are well pleased.

Finally, this kettle may be a little on the pricey side because after all, a £10 kettle can boil water just as well but if you shop around, you will find them considerably cheaper.

I have had a number of stay warm kettles and without doubt this is the best. It is very quiet which is unusual for stay warmers. Excellent rapid boiling. The kettle feels comfortable to use and is a very cleaner pourer with no spillage and drips.

Now for the down side, hence 4 instead of 5 stars.
Very awkward to clean by hand unless you have very petite hands. I live in a hard water area and so always use descaler which works excellently.
Unfortunately my kettle has developed a fault. The chrome on the lid release button has started to lift after just 6 months.
I reported the fault to Amazon and it was dealt with in a professional and efficient manner. I just wait to receive the new replacement and then download a return label to send the faulty one back.
