Had a number of kettles in the past and found that due to limescale build up the lids kept on breaking, limescale build up around the top of the kettle/lids caused the lid to 'catch', breaking the lever opening mechanism. This kettle is great has a solid plastic inner lining so that there is no metal on metal contact between the lid and the rest of the kettle, there is no obvious sign of any limescale build up around the top of the kettle. So hopefully this will sort the problem.
The kettle is well designed/robust but a bit taller than I expected. Lid is on a lever/switch that seems sturdy enough.

I purchased this kettle in Jan 09 and would have happily given a high rating on first impression, speed and quietness. However by Aug 09 the lid struggled to respond to the push button mechanism, eventually stopped opening and then collapsed. The lid split in two leaving the base of the lid on the kettle and allowing the inner workings of plastic and metal spring to fall out. I happily received a replacement, but 4 months on and the same thing has happened again. The kettle still looks like new, but the plastic lid mechanism seems to be made up of lightweight plastic/a small metal spring which does not match the quality of the rest of the kettle.
